If you want to create gorgeous bonsai with interesting trunks and branches, wiring will be an indispensable skill for you to master. This workshop includes a PowerPoint presentation and a series of hands-on exercises to help you develop the ability to wire effectively and attractively. Arriving at the class with a basic understanding of bonsai care and aesthetics will help you appreciate the context of wiring, but you need not have taken an introductory general bonsai course to benefit from this wiring course. Supplies are included in the course registration fee.

Rebecca Ayres is a ceramic artist and gardener. A longtime Arboretum volunteer, she is the assistant to the bonsai curator and helps with overseeing the exhibition garden, the collection and the Carolina Bonsai Expo. She is a member of the Blue Ridge Bonsai Society, where she has taught workshops and classes, and is a graduate of the Arboretum's Blue Ridge Naturalist program.
