Can photography radically change your relationship with the natural world? Can photography radically change your relationship with the natural world? Award-winning documentary photographer Susan Patrice believes it can. In this Artist Talk preceding an immersive contemplative photography retreat at the Arboretum, Susan will share images from her ongoing Enveloping Landscape project, a multi-year photography project exploring southern Appalachian forests. Nature enthusiasts and photographers of all levels are invited to attend this free program to learn more about the power of everyday photography to animate love, encourage meaningful dialogue, and most importantly, inspire an increased commitment to caring for our common home. Participants in the weekend contemplative photography retreat should attend and use the opportunity to meet prior to a full weekend of focused practice.

Susan Patrice is a documentary photographer, community artist, and founder of Makers Circle. She recently launched Kinship Photography Collective, a global community of practice designed to create rich visual conversations that explore the intimate connections between nature, culture and belonging. Susan's own photography and public installations focus primarily on the Southern Landscape and its people and feature intimate images that touch deeply into the questions of place, gender, and belonging.
