Biltmore's expansive beauty is offered up in this experience of gardens and forest, curated especially for the Arboretum's Certificate of Merit community. Take in the formal and informal gardens designed by America’s foremost landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted, expertly maintained by a skilled team of horticulturists. Another living tribute to Olmsted’s genius is apparent in the magnificent trees and wild spaces he designed for what grew as America’s first managed forest. The estate encompasses more than 8,000 acres, now carefully preserved and providing a natural habitat for a variety of beautiful creatures, both wild and domestic. We’ll travel together from the Arboretum and have time to explore with guide Heather Brannan, Biltmore’s Outdoor Programs Manager, who brings her Blue Ridge Naturalist knowledge to work everyday. She’ll invite us to be alert to “nature glimmers,” to see, savor and appreciate anew in an incomparable setting. Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and good shoes for walking. Bring a bag lunch or plan to purchase treats at any of the eateries located in Biltmore’s Antler Hill Village.

Heather Brannan is the Outdoor Programs Manager at Biltmore® in Asheville, North Carolina. Her work involves developing both programs and people to provide high quality and signature outdoor experiences for guests, annual passholders, and employees. Her team delivers a wide range of activities, including archery, guided bike tours and hikes, croquet, raft and kayak trips, falconry, fishing, and a large slate of naturalist and well-being offerings. Prior to joining Biltmore’s Outdoor Programs team, Heather earned degrees in American History and English Literature. Always an avid outdoorswoman, she enjoys the challenge and privilege of connecting the history of Biltmore® with the natural world around it and is inspired by sharing outdoor experiences with others.
